CAMEG Engages Five Schools in Nsawam-Adoagyiri to Promote Environmental Action and Methane Awareness

Greener Impact International (GII), through the Campaign Against Methane Emissions in Ghana (CAMEG), has successfully carried out a school engagement initiative across five schools in the Nsawam-Adoagyiri Municipality. The engagement forms part of a broader campaign supported by the Clean Air Task Force (CATF), aimed at raising awareness about methane emissions and mobilising national and local action to reduce methane pollution in Ghana.

The initiative recognises young people as key drivers of long-term environmental change. By equipping students with the knowledge, tools, and leadership opportunities to act, CAMEG is contributing to Ghana’s wider efforts to reduce pollution, strengthen climate mitigation commitments, and improve environmental health outcomes.

As part of the engagement, CAMEG implemented a set of structured and practical activities across the participating schools, designed to strengthen environmental responsibility, improve sanitation, and promote proper waste management in the school environment.

Activities implemented included:

1.   School compound inspections across all five schools to encourage cleanliness and assess existing waste management practices.

2. Establishment of Environmental Clubs in each school, serving as student-led platforms for environmental education, advocacy, and action.

Speaking on the importance of the initiative, a representative of Greener Impact International noted:

“Engaging young people is critical to building a cleaner and more sustainable Ghana. Through this activity, students are not only learning about environmental responsibility but also taking practical steps to protect their surroundings and influence their communities.”

Upcoming follow-up activities:

To ensure sustainability and strengthen impact, the engagement will be followed by:

1. A Training of Trainers (ToT) learning session for environmental club leaders and patrons to improve coordination and effectiveness.

2. The provision of digital resources to support club patrons in sustaining environmental club activities.

3. The introduction of a waste separation and collection system, beginning with commonly generated waste items such as sachet rubbers and paper waste.

Greener Impact International remains committed to supporting schools and communities to take practical climate action and contribute to Ghana’s efforts to reduce methane emissions and build a healthier environment for all.
