GII Supports Cleaner School Environments with Waste Sorting Bins Donation

Greener Impact International (GII) has donated sets of trash cans to selected schools in the Nsawam-Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly as part of efforts to promote waste sorting and proper disposal practices. This intervention is aimed at supporting a cleaner, safer, and healthier school environment for both learners and staff. The beneficiary schools include: Nsawam presby Basic school, Reverend Father Wiegger cluster of schools, Nana Osae Djan M/A cluster of schools, Adoagyri R/C primary and JHS and NAVA M/A Basic school.

The donation forms part of GII's broader Campaign Against Methane Emissions in Ghana (CAMEG), which seeks to reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions through improved waste management practices and increased environmental awareness at the community level.

The presentation of the trash cans was carried out during a special event held at the Conference Hall of the Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) in Nsawam. The Municipal Directorate, as a key collaborator, is supporting the initiative to ensure sustainability through supervision and monitoring of the proper use and maintenance of the waste bins in the beneficiary schools.

As part of the programme, each participating school delivered a PowerPoint presentation on the current state of sanitation and environmental conditions within and around their school compound. The presentations highlighted key sources of methane emissions linked to daily activities, including improper waste disposal and open dumping. Schools also shared their vision and practical plans for effectively using the trash cans to improve cleanliness, encourage waste sorting, and promote responsible waste disposal practices among pupils.

Speaking at the event, the CAMEG Campaign Coordinator for GII, Mr. Timothy Apeanti, highlighted the importance of waste segregation as a key step in reducing methane emissions and improving public health. He encouraged school authorities and pupils to take ownership of the initiative and ensure that the bins are used appropriately to achieve lasting impact.

In response, the Head Teacher of one of the beneficiary schools underscored the significance of the support, noting that the donation will not only enhance sanitation in the school but also strengthen environmental discipline and awareness among learners.
