Greener Impact International Welcomes COP30 Outcomes and Reaffirms Commitment to Climate Action

Delegates from Greener Impact International (GII) have welcomed the outcomes of the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) and commended Parties for the collective progress made toward advancing global climate action.

Hosted under the Brazilian Presidency, COP30 took place in Belem, Brazil, bringing together world leaders, researchers, civil society organisations, intergovernmental bodies, the media, and climate advocates from across the world. This year's conference was especially symbolic, as it returned to Brazil 30 years after the UN climate convention was adopted in Rio de Janeiro.

Holding COP30 in Belem located at the heart of the Amazon rainforest was also a powerful choice, aimed at bringing global attention closer to the regions and communities most affected by climate change. The location highlighted the importance of Indigenous Peoples and local communities, whose leadership and resilience remain central to protecting ecosystems and strengthening climate solutions.

Key Issues on the COP30 Agenda

COP30 negotiations centred on several critical areas, including:

  • the development of a 1.5°C aligned roadmap for phasing out fossil fuels

  • strengthened commitments on climate finance for developing countries

  • progress toward new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) for 2035

  • accelerated efforts to protect tropical forests and biodiversity

  • discussions on indicators for the Global Goal on Adaptation, scaling up adaptation, operationalising the Loss and Damage Fund, and advancing work under the Just Transition Work Programme

These outcomes were reflected in the final COP30 decision text, the global Mutirao.

GII Showcases Climate Solutions and Community Action at COP30

On the sidelines of the conference, Greener Impact International hosted an exhibition booth to engage with participants, share experiences, and build partnerships. The exhibition showcased GII's ongoing work in:

  • raising environmental awareness among young people and local communities

  • supporting clean energy promotion

  • advancing biodiversity conservation

  • connecting with other organisations for knowledge exchange and collaboration

A major highlight at the GII booth was the Campaign Against Methane Emissions in Ghana, which supports national efforts to deliver on Ghana's commitments under the Global Methane Pledge (GMP). Through this campaign, GII has worked with a wide range of stakeholders including government institutions, NGOs, schools, media organisations, and local communities to promote improved waste management practices and increase public awareness about methane emissions.

At COP30, GII shared lessons from the campaign through flyers, posters, and panel contributions, helping amplify Ghana's methane mitigation efforts on a global platform.

Global Methane Action: Progress Made, But More Needed

With the Global Methane Pledge target year fast approaching, it is critical for countries to assess progress and increase ambition where necessary. In this context, the launch of the 2025 Global Methane Status Report at COP30 was a key milestone. While the report acknowledges ongoing progress in methane mitigation, it also warns that current actions remain insufficient to meet the target of a 30% reduction in global methane emissions by 2030.

Looking Ahead

Greener Impact International remains committed to supporting climate action that is community-driven, inclusive, and grounded in practical solutions. As we reflect on COP30 outcomes, GII will continue expanding its work and partnerships to strengthen climate resilience and accelerate emissions reductions in Ghana and beyond.
