GREENER IMPACT INTERNATIONAL AT COP28

The 28th Session of the Conference of Parties Serving as meetings of Parties (COP 28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was held from the 30th November to the 13th December 2023 in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This conference was highly patronized with over 7000 registered participants including government, businesses, intergovernmental organisations, Research institutions, NGOs and private sector. With the establishment of the loss and damage fund which was considered as a key success from COP27 last year, COP28 advanced a process for the operationalization of the fund. Another key outcome from the COP was the welcoming by Parties of the conclusions of the first global stocktake with a renew commitment to take action to cut down emissions in line with the recommendation from the IPCC and to scale up finance needed to deliver on these commitments.

As an accredited observer to the UNFCCC, Greener Impact International (GII) had the privilege to host and exhibition to showcase its work to the wider COP participants. Visitors at GII exhibition boot, expressed genuine interest in our activities. The exhibition also fostered discussion that could lead to future collaborations and partnerships.

In addition to the exhibition GII also hosted a joint ministerial even with the Clean Air Task Force (CATF). The high-level event brought together countries and partners to the Global Methane Pledge to share their actions and progresses targeted at fulfilling the pledge. GII’s keen interest in action against methane comes on a backdrop of a research it conducted on methane emission in Ghana taking a case of Nsawam Adoagyiri and the La Nkwantanang Madina Municipal Assemblies. This also followed a capacity building workshop it organized for CSOs in Ghana to empower them to take action against methane and to develop high impact project that deliver emission outcomes and at the same strengthen community resilience.

As cautioned by IPCC, rapid, sustained and deep cut of emissions has to be pursued in this decade if the fight against climate change is to be won and at Greener Impact International we remain committed to this fight for we believe that with collective action we will put the world on a path towards delivering a safe climate for all.
