The twenty-ninth session of the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) took place from the 11 - 22 November 2024 in Baku the capital city of Azerbaijan.
As the world leaders of more than one hundred ninety eight countries, Parties to the UNFCCC gathered to discuss actions to take to address climate change issues, various other groups including Civil Society Organizations were also present to help in finding solutions to the climate crisis.

In this same perspective, Greener Impact International, a Ghanaian based Non-Governmental Organization, are actively participated in the COP processes to showcase our works, share knowledge and partner with like-minded organizations to drive more momentum towards solving this global threat.
At Greener Impact International, we work towards raising awareness among youth and local communities about environmental issues and we implement activities targeting the promotion of clean energies and the conservation of bio-diversity.
Since COP 26 in the year 2021, Ghana became a signatory to the Global Methane Pledge, committing to reduce its methane emissions by at least thirty percent by 2030. To support the Ghanaian government in delivering on its commitment under the Global Methane Pledge, GII has been working for the past two years with government entities such as the Environmental Protection Agency, municipal assemblies and other partner civil society organizations to address methane emissions reduction from the agriculture the waste sector.
Our interventions in this regard have targeted farmers, schools and market women for an adequate management and disposal of animal feeds and food waste to avoid them ending in landfills. For we know that methane is the second most dominant greenhouse gas after Carbon dioxide with even a more heat trapping ability over a shorter period.
It is then an excitement for us at GII to have witnessed and by this same channel to share with you all this vital information that today, November 19th. 2024, the COP 29 Presidency in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), officially launched a declaration titled "Reducing Methane from Organic Waste"
This declaration comes at an appropriate time to help many parties, signatories to the Global Methane Pledge, to achieve their commitments to reduce their methane emissions as it equally highlights that organic waste is the world's third largest and fastest-growing source of anthropogenic methane emissions, making it an urgent need to address.
The work is ongoing, the fight continues! Join us in our efforts to diver organic waste from landfills!
